We catch up with Danielle Angell Jones – Head of Fundraising & Events for Kidney Wales, ahead of their Cardiff 10K

The countdown is on until the big day – how many runners have signed up so far?
We are expecting over 8,000 participants to join us at the start line on the 1st of September.  Time is running out to enter, registrations have been coming in thick and fast and we are nearing a sell out!

What are the highlights of the Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run?
The Cardiff Met Cardiff 10K and 2K Fun Run is an event for the entire family.  Over its 34 year history it has developed into Wales’s largest 10K road race, and certainly an iconic event for the race calendar here in Wales.  It is a City Centre closed road race passing some of the capital’s landmarks including Cardiff Castle, City Hall, The Principality and Swalec Stadiums.

Kidney Wales organise the race – please can you tell us a little about the work the charity does?
Kidney Wales are the race organisers of the event. As a charity we support patients and their families living with kidney disease across the country.  The funds raised at last year’s race helped us refurbish the dialysis room at Pelican Ward at the Children’s Hospital of Wales making it more of a home-from-home for children during their treatment and hospital stays.

Can we run for Kidney Wales?
Yes, we would be delighted if you would consider running for Kidney Wales, all you need to do is tick the box on the entry form and we will be in touch to arrange your own Team KW fundraising pack and running top.

The event’s headline sponsor is Cardiff Metropolitan University – I understand staff & students will be supporting runners at the finish line?
We are privileged to have announced Cardiff Metropolitan University as our headline sponsor for the event.  We have a variety of staff and students taking part in the race and also volunteering their time to support with post-race massage, podiatry and injury prevention and handing out those all-important medals to our finishers!

We can’t wait to see your medal design – when is the big reveal?
Watch this space, we will be releasing teasers of the design over the coming weeks on our social media channels.  We are so excited to share them with everyone!

We’ve got to ask…why do you love the iTAB?
iTABs are a fantastic memento for those important races.  Whether you’ve taken part in your first event or have bagged yourself a PB – It’s the perfect way to capture that moment. You can order your iTAB during registration or after the event here: https://www.itab.us.com/product/cardiff-10k/

Sign me up! When does registration close?
Registrations for the race close on 15th of August, however we are likely to sell out before so get in quick to secure your place!
